The Umayyads moved the capital to Damascus and built the largest empire the world had yet seen, from the Atlantic coast of Spain (Al-Andalus) to the Indus and Central Asia. They built the Dome of the Rock (691 CE), made Arabic the language of administration, and struck the first Islamic coinage.نقل الأمويون العاصمة إلى دمشق، وأقاموا أكبر إمبراطورية عرفها العالم حتى ذلك الحين، من ساحل الأطلسي في الأندلس إلى نهر السند وآسيا الوسطى. بنوا قبة الصخرة (٦٩١م)، وجعلوا العربية لغة الإدارة، وسكّوا أوّل عملةٍ إسلامية.
