Centred in Baghdad, the Abbasid era was the Golden Age of Islamic civilisation. The House of Wisdom (Bayt al-Hikma) translated Greek, Persian, and Indian works into Arabic, then produced original breakthroughs in algebra, medicine, astronomy, and chemistry.بمركزها بغداد، كان العصر العباسي العصرَ الذهبيَّ للحضارة الإسلامية. ترجم بيت الحكمة أعمال اليونان وفارس والهند إلى العربية، ثم أبدع علماؤه فتوحاتٍ أصيلة في الجبر والطب والفلك والكيمياء.

Under Harun al-Rashid and his son Al-Mamun, Baghdad was the largest city on Earth and the world's centre of learning. The era ended with the Mongol sack of Baghdad in 1258 CE.في عهد هارون الرشيد وابنه المأمون كانت بغداد أكبر مدن الأرض ومركز العالم العلمي. وانتهى هذا العصر بسقوط بغداد على يد المغول سنة ١٢٥٨م.
